Update June 7

Post by sholzy »

Members: make sure your email address is current and able to accept emails from us. You may or may not be able log into the new site with your current password. If you can't use your current password, you will need to click the "forgot password" link to get a password reset email.

The new site is getting very close to getting a forum import test. If all goes well, I'll open up the new site for about a week for a test run for our members.

Here's a teaser

Because the main importer tool was for an older version of phpBB, I created a clean up tool in Gambas to help import some of the items the importer didn't want to transfer. The newer version of phpBB added lots hidden tags in all forum posts and signatures that my cleanup tool had to remove.

There are a few items in your profile that may not transfer to the new forum/site. If you use these, make note of those so you can transfer them to the new site.

I may need to delete these fields before doing the next test import within the next 2 weeks since they don't want to play nice with the importer. The new site will have those same fields available for you to use. Location, Website, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube are affected. There are about 30 members using at least one of these fields

Avatars: will not make the transfer. You will need to upload one.

Signatures: I was able to get to transfer, but you may need to do some minor clean if my cleanup tool missed anything.

Board preferences: you may need to adjust those.

Private messages: those will make the transfer, but I'm unable to verify my cleanup tool was able to fully clean them up.

Those who choose to remain silent in the beginning have little say at the end.

I've posted plenty of times of the new website giving opportunity to ask questions and make comments, but most members chose to remain silent. I created new forums just for that purpose, but no one chose to make use of them. I posted a few polls trying to get members involved, but only a few bothered to take the time to respond so I figured I was just wasting my time trying to get any input.
