The new site will have 3 new mandatory profile fields which I think will be helpful to both the poster and to those helping the poster. They will show up when a member places the mouse over the member's name in a post, or when viewing a member's profile.
The 3 fields are: "Gambas version", "Operating system", and "OS version". Any new registration, or any current member who edits their profile, will be required to fill these in from a drop down box.

Re: new profile fields
Does it have a "custom" entry or you just put the main official versions in?
this is my version.
3.20.99 53dfc9b4c (bruces-patched)
the git commit hash changes often.
Maybe add a text box for adding additional version info?
then you won't have to edit the pages selection list to add every new version as it's released.
I cannot see it being kept up to date.
Ie. i think people will add the info to start then never update it when they update their gambas/OS

Re: new profile fields
Currently it just has the official released versions (3.20.2, 3.20.3, 3.20.4, etc.). I might change it 3.20.x since I can't have every possible version out there. If I add a blank custom field I'd have to decide if it would show on everyone's tool tip or no one's. It would still show when viewing a user's profile though. Maybe I'll add "Custom" as a version choice, then the member could add it to a blank profile field showing only in their profile. I'll have to do some thinking on this.
I'm trying to keep this as fool proof as possible during registration.
Unfortunately, I can't do something like "if this answer, then show this field".

Re: new profile fields
If they don't take time to update then you beat on them them until they do.

On some things I can have automatic periodic reviews. I don't know if this is one of those. I'll have to check into it.
Re: new profile fields
I've added a non-mandatory, free-form "Custom version" field. So, in the "Gambas version" field you'd choose "Custom", then enter the custom version in the "Custom version" field. Only if the "Custom version" field contains data, will it display.BruceSteers wrote: ↑Sun Jun 08, 2025 7:32 am Does it have a "custom" entry or you just put the main official versions in?

Updating the versions for the drop down only takes a few seconds. When I update the version, I'll send out a mass PM reminder. If members don't want to update it, then so be it.
I'm more interested in new members showing what Gambas version and OS they are using without having to ask them. When reading a request post for help, you just mouse over their name and you'll know instantly if the version of Gambas or OS they are using is outdated or not.
