Can be installed on AlmaLinux 9.5

Questions and info about the Gambas IDE itself and not what you are making with it.

Can be installed on AlmaLinux 9.5

Post by salclemii »

Hello guys!
I tried to compile and install gambas from source (latest and 3.18.4) on my OS AlmaLinux 9.5 but it seem impossible to do.
Latest version compile but do not install, the 3.18.4 version install but do not work.
Somebody can say me if it is possible to install gambas3 on this system?
Many thanks

A good start with the installed version 3.18.4 would be to open a terminal and type gambas3 [Enter] and report back any errors.

RHEL install info is pretty old , i do not think the Mageia info has been updated for some time. https://gambaswiki.org/wiki/install/mageia

it probably wants updating.

probably now is a good time to suggest adding RHEL to the list of supported distros as currently a new way of making repositories for the latest gambas is in development.

I'm downloading Almal9.5 now and will see if we can get things working for you :) .........

I have installed AlmaLinux on a Dell but have been unable to install Gambas perhaps Bruce will have more luck. I notice that AlmaLinux uses Wayland which will not give you the best Gambas experience. Can you tell me why you have chosen AlmaLinux, even with all the repositories switched on there seems to be very little software available?

i couldn't get things running from a minimal install , i'm downloading the full dvd now.

There did seem to be a lot of packages missing we need, maybe the full dvd will give me more options.

if you like RHEL base then Fedora is well supported and would be a better choice.

And as Cogier says wayland is awful, install gnome-session-xsession and use gnome with x11 for the best gambas experience.

I'll let you know how it goes.....
