Progress - logdate 20250424

A Debian based OS project meant as an educational environment for learning Gambas.
With pre-installed Gambas3 and all needed to get you educated.
Core applications in the OS will be slowly replaced by Gambas3 counterparts.

Progress - logdate 20250424

Post by gbWilly »

Since last progress report here, I have reached build 18 of GambOS. I'm happy with this build as the desktop looks like I want it to be after the auto installation.
I also modified what parts of the auto installer are set and what is left up to the person installing (took me several new builds and tests to get that as I wanted it)
Next I created a little installation manual, being a bunch of screenshots and some text in between, explaining all the steps. You can find it here if curious.

I was thinking of doing one more build after 18, before dropping the .iso to the test team, but today, I decided against it.
So, I made the GambOS build 18 .iso available to the test team and we'll see what they come up with for me to sort out.
Probably a lot of work...

I could post another screenshot of build 18 here, but it is not really different than the ones from previous progress updates.

For now, I will be adding some little things to 'GambOS Dashboard' and try to start coding 'GambOS Sofware Center' and have it added to the first Alpha release. Further I will focus on fixing what might need fixing and improving on what the test team came up with.

For upcoming period there will be not much to learn on GambOS, for now I'm working on creating the eco system to do the learning in.
But as soon as above two applications are somewhat presentable, focus will go to creating the first simple versions of a text editor or a web browser and parallel to coding I will be writing the learning guides in how to build these yourself (step by step and with added screenshots where needed)

This is a mega project to do and will take time, a lot of time. And I have to think through a lot and set it up so that updating guides and software will be easily possible on an already installed GambOS.

And when it comes to learning Gambas, focus will start with providing guides for beginners to Gambas, but it might reach higher levels as time passes, as there is so much to learn and explain that is hardly documented.

Enjoy...
